Aftercare
General guidance for looking after new work. Your artist's specific instructions always take priority.
Initial care
Leave the covering on for as long as your artist tells you. Wash your hands before touching the area at any stage.
Cleaning
Rinse gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free soap, then pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not scrub.
Moisturising
Apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free aftercare balm two to three times a day. Thick layers trap moisture and slow healing.
Avoid excessive moisture
No swimming pools, baths, saunas or long soaks until the skin has fully closed.
Do not scratch or pick
Flaking and light itching are normal. Picking scabs pulls out pigment and can scar.
Sun protection
Keep a healing tattoo out of direct sun. Once healed, use high-factor sunscreen to keep the work sharp.
Normal healing
Redness, mild swelling and flaking in the first days are common. Most surface healing settles within two to three weeks.
When to seek advice
Spreading redness, increasing pain, heat, pus or fever are not normal. Contact a qualified healthcare professional promptly.
